Minister of Tourism welcomes wine producers and journalists from over 26 countries

Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh opened the 16th edition of the prestigious international wine competition Concours Mondial du Sauvignon in Burgas. The event brought together more than 1000 Sauvignon Blanc wines competing for medals in front of a jury of 60 experts from 20 countries in the seaside town.

"This is one of the important events for us because this year we are focusing very much on wine tourism. Bulgaria is a country that makes good wine and organises events for good wine. This is what we show today and will prove again in October when we will host one of the biggest forums – the 9th UN Tourism Global Conference. Bulgaria deserves and will take its worthy place on the map of world wine tourism," Minister Miroslav Borshosh said.

Bulgaria is hosting the "World Wine Championship" for the first time for this variety, and the partners of the event are the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the Municipality of Burgas and the company Probegex – official representative of CMB for the country. This year's competition marks a record Bulgarian participation with 56 samples from domestic producers who will compete with wines from 25 other countries. For 20 years the competition has been organized in iconic wine countries such as France, Spain, Austria and Italy, and now for the first time Bulgaria is hosting the Sauvignon Blanc edition.

Almost half of the international jury is made up of journalists who will cover the event and publish articles about Bulgaria. Among them are Anik Goumaz, a Swiss journalist from the largest wine magazine in Switzerland – VINUM, who will prepare a special publication for a gourmet weekend in Sofia, as well as Mathilde Yulot – winner of the French Prix Curnonsky award, who will visit wineries in the Burgas region and publish articles in French and German specialized publications.

The Concours Mondial du Sauvignon is part of the global Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, which tastes over 15,000 wines each year and is renowned as the most rigorous and professional wine competition in the world, with its medals considered a prestigious mark of quality in the global wine industry.
