Ministry of Tourism hosted a meeting between Sofia Municipality and the Ministers of Tourism and Transport of Montenegro
The Ministry of Tourism hosted a meeting between representatives of Sofia Municipality - the Deputy Chairman of the Sofia Municipal Council Vanya Tagareva, the Deputy Mayor of Sofia Nikola Barbutov, and the Municipal Councillor Anna Stoykova, as well as the Ministers of Tourism and Transport of Montenegro, Simonida Kordic and Maja Vukicevic.
During the meeting, Sofia was presented as one of the fastest growing tourist destinations in the region. In 2024, there will be over 1.2 million tourist registrations in the capital, with the main markets being Bulgaria, Italy, Romania, Turkey, Greece, Spain, England and Israel. Attracting visitors from distant destinations through coordinated efforts and cooperation was highlighted as a common goal and priority for both countries.
In February, Sofia will host the B40 initiative, which brings together the mayors of the Balkan capitals. B40 promotes cooperation and experience sharing in the network of over 70 Balkan cities as a basis for stability in the Balkans and Europe. The focus of the forum this year is on improving transport connectivity in the region - a key factor in facilitating tourist travel.
"Coordinated efforts between institutions and business will be the key to achieving these goals," said Montenegro's Minister of Tourism, Simonida Kordic.
During the workshop, opportunities for joint promotion of the region as a tourist destination were discussed. The focus will be on the authenticity and diversity that Balkan tourism offers - culinary, cultural, historical, event and urban, with adventures suitable for visitors seeking unique experiences.
At the end of the meeting, Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh confirmed the position that both Sofia and the other Balkan capitals have great potential for development as leading destinations, attractive for both traditional and new markets."
