Minister Irena Georgieva held discussions with the industry regarding regulatory oversight within the sector, the shortage of labour, and preparations for the Giro d'Italia

Minister of Tourism Irena Georgieva held a meeting with representatives of Mountains and People - Association of Mountain Guides in Bulgaria, the Southeastern Union of Tour Guides "Vanya Raykova", the Union of Tour Guides in Bulgaria, the Association of Tour Guides in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian Association of Restaurants, and the Bulgarian Association of Hotel Management Professionals. The discussions addressed regulatory oversight within the sector, labor shortages, legislative initiatives, and preparations for the Giro d'Italia.

During the meeting with the tour guide and mountain guide organizations, the primary matter addressed was the necessity for more effective oversight and enforcement measures to address unregulated activities and individuals acting as self-proclaimed guides. Industry representatives requested the adoption of clearer regulatory requirements and the implementation of more stringent inspection and enforcement measures. Minister Georgieva stated that preparations are underway to amend the regulatory framework and expand control powers. "Control is material to the reputation of the sector and to the protection of reputable professionals," she said.

During the meeting with the Bulgarian Association of Restaurants, matters concerning the shortage of labour and the procedures for hiring employees from third countries were raised. The organization stated that it welcomes the retention of the team at the Ministry, and that such retention provides reassurance and enhances predictability for the industry. The necessity for expedited and streamlined procedures was emphasized. "We will work in collaboration with the competent parliamentary committee to identify and implement effective solutions for the tourism sector," Minister Georgieva stated.

The preparation of the stages of the international cycling race Giro d'Italia, to be held in Bulgaria, was discussed with the Bulgarian Association of Hotel Management Professionals. Minister Georgieva assured that the organization is currently in progress, that work on the route is ongoing, and that marketing activities are being undertaken. Minister Georgieva further noted that the event constitutes an exceptional opportunity to present Bulgaria to an international audience.
