Bulgaria presented its SPA and health tourism opportunities in Ankara

Deputy Minister of Tourism Prof. Mariela Modeva presented Bulgaria as a leading SPA and health destination during an event in Ankara, organized by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) and dedicated to the "BG SUMMER" initiative and the Turkish version of the "BG SPA - Health through Water" catalog. The event was held at the BTA National Press Club in the Turkish capital, in partnership with the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in the Republic of Turkey and the Bulgarian Union of Balneology and SPA Tourism. "Bulgaria has much to offer Turkish visitors, not only as a nearby and accessible destination, but also as a place for quality vacations, preventive care, and health treatments. We have mineral waters, modern SPA and medical SPA centres, the sea, mountains, and a rich cultural heritage. Thanks to this, we can offer diverse travel and recreation opportunities throughout all seasons," Deputy Minister Modeva said.

She noted that the catalog "BG SPA - Health through Water" presents 128 certified SPA, wellness and medical SPA centres in Bulgaria. According to her, the publication in Turkish is an important step because it provides Turkish citizens with clear, accessible and practical information when choosing and planning a trip to Bulgaria.

Deputy Minister Modeva also highlighted the steady growth in interest from Turkey in our country. In 2025, the number of registered Turkish tourists in accommodation facilities in Bulgaria was over 295,000, which is 61% more than the previous year. Only at the beginning of 2026, their number exceeded 95,000. "These results are a clear sign of confidence. Turkish tourists are increasingly choosing Bulgaria because of its proximity, the quality of services, the good value for money and the opportunity to combine relaxation, health, nature and culture," Prof. Modeva said.

During the visit, a meeting was also held between Deputy Minister Modeva and H.E. Angel Cholakov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Republic of Turkey. The two discussed the possibilities for deepening bilateral cooperation and for more active presentation of the Bulgarian tourism product on the Turkish market.
