The Ministry of Tourism and the Bulgarian Organization for Wine Tourism to work towards establishing the country as a year-round destination
The development of wine tourism as a strategic product that complements Bulgaria’s traditional strong tourism sectors and can turn the country into a year-round destination was the key focus of a meeting between Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh and the Bulgarian Organization for Wine Tourism (BOWT) — the first national association bringing together leading wineries in Bulgaria.
“You are the first organization dedicated to wine tourism, and this is an important step for the entire sector Wine tourism is a product with the potential to establish Bulgaria as a year-round destination. People are looking for experiences and are ready to invest in them, while our wines impress international markets and can be a strong factor for the country’s image. The Ministry of Tourism will work together with you to develop a clear strategy that includes the regions, local authorities, and international promotion,” said Minister Borshosh.
During the discussion, key topics for the sector’s development were addressed — digitalization, the creation of wine routes, and improved coordination between winemakers and municipalities. Minister Borshosh also highlighted the ongoing work on the establishment of a national fund aimed at promoting Bulgaria through major international channels and positioning wine tourism as part of the overall vision for Bulgarian tourism.
The meeting also covered Bulgaria’s hosting of the 9th Global Conference on Wine Tourism. The initiative, organized by the Ministry of Tourism in partnership with the UN Tourism, will be held in Plovdiv from 5 to 7 October 2025. The forum will bring together over 150 international participants — institutions, experts, universities, and media — and will provide an opportunity for Bulgarian winemakers and wine regions to be broadly represented on the international stage.
