"Bulgarian tourism has a clearly defined direction—sustainability, partnership, and a strong international presence. We will continue to work, building on our achievements and with a long-term vision,” the Acting Minister said.

Miroslav Borshosh officially handed over the leadership of the Ministry of Tourism to Irena Georgieva, who is taking over the post in the caretaker government. During the meeting, the two discussed the agency’s priorities, the results achieved so far, and the projects to be developed.

Among the principal priorities were initiatives to promote the sustainable development of the sector, to improve the business environment, and to establish Bulgaria as a competitive and recognizable tourist destination.

"It was an exceptional privilege to work with the Ministry of Tourism team and with representatives of the local government and the sector. I am confident that the sector remains under the stewardship of a proven professional with extensive experience, who is fully apprised of the challenges and potential of Bulgarian tourism," Miroslav Borshosh said. He emphasized that the achievements attained in 2025 were the result of the collective efforts of the administration, municipalities, businesses, and tourism organizations and associations.

For her part, Irena Georgieva stated her readiness to continue active dialogue and cooperation with the municipalities and the tourism industry, and to rely on the expertise of the team at the Ministry. "I hereby assume this responsibility with full awareness of the significance of tourism to the country's economy. "We will endeavour to build upon what has been achieved and to establish Bulgaria as a year-round tourist destination," she stated.

She expressed her exceptionally high and positive assessment of the ministry’s work under the leadership of Miroslav Borshosh, highlighting the significant progress in the sector’s development, the stability achieved, the active dialogue with the industry and municipalities, and the clear strategic vision that has laid a sustainable foundation for long-term growth and a stronger international positioning of Bulgaria as a tourist destination.

During the conversation between them, it was emphasized that policy continuity and effective coordination with all stakeholders are essential to the stable and sustainable development of Bulgarian tourism.
