For the third consecutive year, Bulgaria will host an international 3D video mapping competition supported by the Ministry of Tourism. It will be held as part of the program of the fourth edition of the LUNAR Festival of Lights from May 8 to 11, 2025. The façade of the National Gallery / Square 500 will come alive with projections of seven final visual works on the theme "Legacy," selected from a total of 52 entries from 26 countries. This year, twice as many people want to take part in the contest compared to last year's edition of the festival.
"International 3D video mapping competitions attract not only artists who have the opportunity to present their art by transforming iconic buildings, but also audiences from different countries who are exposed to diverse art and local landmarks. Hosting such a championship in Bulgaria is important not only for the development of the artistic scene, but also for tourism in the country. For the third edition of the competition, we chose the theme of heritage because people often learn about the places they visit through the symbols and shared values that accompany them," said Miroslav Borshosh, Minister of Tourism.
The Ministry of Tourism is focusing on the development of urban tourism and the establishment of Sofia as a cultural destination through strategic support for events of international significance. According to Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh, it is cultural events held in iconic urban spaces that play a key role in creating new tourist routes and extending the tourist season.
The works, which will be enjoyed by residents and visitors to the capital, will last between 60 and 90 seconds. All works will be freely accessible and will be presented during the four evening shows of the LUNAR festival.
The first stage of applications for this year's competition has ended, registering the highest level of interest from participants from all over the world in the history of the competition to date.
An international jury will select the seven finalists whose works will demonstrate that the true power of any heritage is its ability to evolve and inspire new creative directions. The winners of the competition will be announced on May 2 on the festival website and on social media.
