Mission

The main mission of the Ministry of Economy and Energy is to develop and carry out clear and transparent economic, energy and tourism policy that protects the national and public interest and is based on the European principles. MEE is working to create a competitive low-carbon economy, which will guarantee growth and development of Bulgaria. Among our tasks are also the promotion and acceleration of investments, innovations and competitiveness. In the tourism sector we are aiming to develop a diversified tourist product.

Economy

• Convert Bulgaria into an attractive long-term investment destination ;
• Protection of consumers' interests;
• Convert Bulgaria into a front door for goods and investments from East Asia and China into the European Union;
• Fostering investment in priority sectors that create high value added and increase the overall competitiveness of the economy;
• Improving the competitiveness of the Bulgarian companies by implementing an effective regulatory framework, low taxes, built and well-developed transport and energy infrastructure, encouraging the export and increasing the amount of the investments in research and development;
• Support the business through financial resources from the Operational Program "Competitiveness" in full compliance with the principles of transparent and effective funds management.

Energy

• Achieving cost-efficient and secure energy supply, taking into consideration the environmental safety requirements;
• Turn Bulgaria into energy independent and competitive country;
• Protecting consumers' interests by ensuring equal access, transparent procedures and economically justified prices;
• Good and effective management of mineral resources;
• Active participation of the government in the establishing of a stable and unified European energy market;
• Improving the energy infrastructure;
• Improving the energy efficiency, by increasing the share of renewable energy sources and reducing the greenhouse gas emissions in accordance with the priorities of the "Europe 2020" strategy;
• Development and utilization of nuclear energy in accordance with the modern requirements for reliability, safety and economy.
