Katerina House

“Katerina house” is with ornaments of old Renaissance architectural style. This is riverside oriented, in the foothills of the historic hill and welcomes its guests in the museum complex from Chiprovtsi. The house accommodates a collection of interesting ethnographic lifestyle and culture of the torlacs, but also garden plants for natural dyeing of fabrics. There is also a Tourist Information Center.

The ethnographic exhibition of the museum is now housed in the "Katerina house", being unique in the country for the collection of living plants for dyeing the wool used in carpets production.

You can see traditional costumes and carpets of the region. Every carpet has its own name: "Tsveke" (Flower), "Zelki" (Cabbage), "Saksii" (Pots), "Tree of Life", "Chicken", "Autumn Vine", "Spring Vine". One of the most characteristic ornaments is the "Kanatitsata" (a stylized image of a butterfly) - the symbol of Eternal Life.
